Unlike our western friends, our staple food is basically healthy. Our dalroti-chaaval-sabzi have all the nutrients required to fuel us without making us fat. Even our junk food like bhelpuri and aloo chaat, are not half as fattening as the American hamburger or the German frankfurter. We don’t have to make any drastic changes in our shopping list - just eliminate a few items and substitute them with a few equally tasty ones. In one of our later chapters, you will find delicious, fatless recipes. Once you get the hang of it, you can cook any dish - Muqhlai, South Indian, Gujarati, Punjabi, Sindhi, etc. from any region of this wonderfully versatile diverse ,country of ours.
Now that you have stricken the word ‘diet’ from your vocabulary, the whole world of food opens up to you. Isn’t that marvellous? What is even more exciting is that you can eat almost anything and not gain weight! All you” have to do is make extremely minor changes, make them part of- your’ lifestyle and presto! you cruise down the highway of fitness!
If you are into aerobic exercising you’ve already taken the first - healthgiving step. You can continue to eat dal-roti-chaaval-sabzi - just don’t add oil, ghee, sugar to them. It is as simple as that! You may ask disbelievingly, “You mean I can eat rice and potatoes? Are you kidding? I’ve been told that they make me fat!” Yes, you eat rice and potatoes-just boil or steam them, don’t fry, them.
Rice and potatoes are Nature’s foods. They don’t make you fat - the oil you cook them in adds those bulges to your body.
